So you didn’t find the right size…

Setup templates: what happens when you don’t find the right one?

We created templates that you can download to setup of your orders easily. They have the correct bleed, safety zones and resolution all included in the file. However, sometimes you might decide to order a custom size. Now what do you do?

Don’t worry. If you don’t see a template for the size that you like, it is easy to get your artwork setup without downloading a template.
All you need to know is the bleed size, safe area size and resolution.

For printed material we use the following values:

Bleed: 1/8 inch (0.125″) total, 1/16 inch (0.0625″) each side
Safe: 1/8 inch (0.125″)total, 1/16 inch (0.0625″) each side
Resolution: 300 dpi/ppi

How to use these measurements

At Zoo Print, and just about every professional print house, we use a total bleed of 1/8 inch (0.125″) larger than the final product and a total safe area of 1/8 inch (0.125″) smaller than the final product size.

Your order is printed on a large sheet and cut to size. That is why we need to know these values and account for them when we are setting up our files.

We will now set up a template for a order that will be delivered to the size of 5″ x 6″

Example print job: 5″ x 6″

Delivered Size = 5″ x 6″ W=5″

L=6″

Artwork with Bleed= 5.125″ x 6.125″

(Delivered Size +0.125″)

W=5″+0.125″ = 5.125″

L=6″+0.125″= 6.125″

Safe Area = 4.875″ x 5.875″

(Delivered Size – 0.125″)

W=5″-0.125″= 4.875″

L=6″”-0.125″= 5.75″
